This begins with a Man who’s recently lost his wife to lung cancer. Now he has to take care of his only daughter, Adeline. She can barely speak and can only see with one eye. Though his life had difficulties, he always remember his wife’s last words “Our daughter is special so don’t fail as a parent.” These words were vague though he never quit on her.
As he raised his daughter till her teen years. The man was informed of her underaged drinking, The man was was disappointed that his angel of a daughter would do such a deed. Although it was only the start of her rebellion. This caused the him to go into a Depression thinking his daughter probably has done much worse, that he wasn’t aware of causing him to collapse onto the floor due to high stress levels.
When the man opened his eyes, he was left stunned by the post-apocalyptic wasteland of nothingness that surrounds him, well there was no one and no where just land and sea with no color. Whilst he stood calm the realization hit him as since there was nothing surrounding him there was likely no one left to save him. This maybe all empty space but the man always tried his best to get out of these situations even if its his first, As he was searching the thought of loosing someone important mad him endure a large amount of pain. This leads him to take a minute to rest and calm down.
After the man woke up, he was relieved and saw a glowing light in the distance though he was stunned. The man notices a pathway leading to the glowing light which started going into the clouds, Though he was filled with guilt and prayed that this was a miracle to get out of this unfamiliar world of grief and agony. As he mourned the voice of his wife made him sprint up with no hesitation following the sound of her voice.
Whilst listening to the direction of her voice he starts seeing her through the bright glowing light and he jolted towards her for a hug and relieve the pain of loosing her. The emptiness of this world didn’t stop him from finding a light to guide him to the right path, the man’s wife says “Remember what i said before i died.” The man say “I never forgot.“ His wife then says, “Your only here because you couldn’t control yourself and lashed out on her.“ The wife kissed his cheek then said “I’ll lead the way out but, I’m sending you to that night to fix that one mistake leading to all this.“ The man doesn’t want to loose his wife again so she waited with her for a while, though his wife encouraged him to let her go and focus on what’s Infront of you not what’s in the past. The man nods and watches her lead the way.
The man wanted to bring something to remember her, though his wife didn’t argue. The wife gave him a old timey key and told him “I’ll lead you there when you go back.” The man nods and walks through all the memories all leading up to that night. Though in one of those memories the man’s father was lashing out at him, the man couldn’t believe that he ended up like his father, this causes him stress out though his wife said he’ll be fine and he just trying his best to a single father whereas your father had a multiple divorces. The man calmed down and took his wife’s word for it and slowly walked back into that night. Before he went in his wife yells “Everything will be fine you just need more time to get used to it and I’ll find you there.“ The man heard the last part in confusion and went back to the real world.
The man went back to that night and instead of lashing out, he told Adeline that “Please don‘t do that again your mother would be very disappointed.“ Adeline about to tear up “I’m sorry dad…“ Then hugs him tightly wiping the tear on his shirt and the man hugs her saying it’s not her fault. They both put aside their differences and instead of fighting they talk to each other. The man calls his daughter Adeline “Dinner’s ready.“ Adeline responds ”Hold on i have a guest with me.” The man was confused though he waited for her.
Adeline brought a stray cat that kept creeping up her window though she let the cat in as it was raining outside. The man says “The cat reminds me of someone“ Adeline says “The cat reminds me of mom so that was another reason i let it eat with us.“ The man finally understood what his wife meant as she said she’ll come back in other ways'. After dinner Adeline went to watch a movie in the living room. Whilst the man notices the cat leads a way somewhere.
The cat looked up at the attic and so the man opened it up so they both could go, then the man remembered the key given by his wife in the land of emptiness. The stray cat found and old timey box matching theme of the key. So the man put the key in and slowly opened the box. In the box there was a letter from his wife that said he shouldn’t rush into conclusion nor cause problems with his daughter it’ll only make it worse as said in her letter. From -Cindy Grant, To -William Grant. Otherwise known as the man and his wife. The man grabbed the cat and letter and told Adeline the story of what happened, Though she didn’t believe it at first Adeline noticed that her necklace was missing the key as she remembered right before her mom died, Cindy said “The necklace has a key and you won’t find it yet till I’m gone.“ The key fit perfectly onto her necklace and she was happy her father brought it back for her.
Though they both were saddened by Cindy Grant’s passing they were both told by her to move on but still remember her as a angel sent by god. He has to raise Adeline till she’s old enough to find herself a work ethic and a great place to live. Whilst watching her grown independently he was glad his wife changed his perspective on the world of endless possibilities while he had nothing in him in the emptiness of the places. The man also watched over the stray cat though it wasn’t his wife directly he knew it was spiritually.
William was hit with a realization that in a place where he was basically the only thing there he found the light by looking for his wife, he was grateful that she was the light in his emptiness and led a way to safety. Adeline grew up to be just like her mother a kind hearted, empathic women.
Adeline was grateful that her father didn’t end up being a bad person whilst maintaining his single father critic, Adeline hugged him after not realizing how much he does for her. Even after Adeline got married she asked her husband Xavier Strong if her father can move in with us. Though Xavier was hesitant, he was moved by the story of her parents and let him stay there. William was happy that they let him spend his last days with his family and he was laying on the couch with the cat that is supposedly his wife.
In a world full of nothing always look for the light in every corner don’t just give up or lash out because there’s nothing make sure you stay calm and live peacefully with others. William soon after passed of old age as he was already in his 80’s while moving in with his daughter Adeline and her husband Xavier. They held the funeral right away as they grieve, Adeline says to Xavier “My father said to never grieve too strong or it will consume you.“ Xavier nods in understanding and wipes her tears for her, As they both left the cemetery the house cat they kept and another cat laid there on the graves of Cindy Grant and William Grant. Both cats were Adeline’s parents protecting her from all dangers, when Adeline and Xavier got home they noticed another cat with a familiar vibe and kept him as well. Making the couple feel familiar with the two cats. At the end of the day
co-operating is better than yelling at each other and creates a comfortable living space where everyone is helped.
