National Service Scheme (NSS)

The National Service Scheme at Oakridge Valley College provides

students with opportunities to contribute to society beyond academics.

The programme, run under the Government of India through universities,

encourages students to participate in community service initiatives such

as:

Blood donation drives

Educating children in slum areas

Awareness campaigns for cancer and AIDS

Volunteering in old age homes

The main objective of NSS is to develop social responsibility, empathy,

and leadership qualities in students while encouraging them to serve

society. Students interested in joining NSS can apply through the

Programme Officer, and approximately 250 students are selected each

academic session.

National Cadet Corps (NCC)

The college also provides an opportunity for students to join the National

Cadet Corps, specifically the 2 Delhi Artillery Battalion. Selection into

NCC is conducted after a thorough medical examination, and cadets are

required to participate in regular Sunday parades beginning from August

through December.

NCC training includes:

Map reading

Field craft

Drill training

Rifle training and firing practice

Cadets receive full uniforms and refreshments during parades, and they

are also provided with a washing allowance to maintain their uniforms.

Students enrolled in NCC can participate in various camps such as:

Annual Training Camps National Integration Camps

Basic Leadership Camps Annual Sports Camps

These camps are held outside Delhi during holidays, and cadets are provided free lodging, boarding, and travel facilities. The

program also includes the Youth Exchange Programme, where cadets get the opportunity to interact with participants from

different countries, making it a truly enriching global experience.

At the end of their training, cadets can appear for the 'B' and 'C' Certificate examinations, which are highly valued and

beneficial for students interested in defence services and government careers. Some outstanding cadets also get

opportunities to attend Republic Day Camps, mountaineering courses, and advanced leadership programs.

NCC for Girls

The college also has a Delhi Girls Battalion, where Lt. Dr. Shalini Malhotra

serves as the NCC Officer guiding and mentoring cadets.

NCC Air Wing

Students interested in aviation can also join the NCC Air Wing. For

enrollment, students must contact the Officer Commanding No.1 (Delhi)

Air Squadron at Safdarjung Airport, New Delhi. The Air Wing provides

exposure to aeronautics, aviation training, and leadership development,

making it an exciting opportunity for students passionate about aviation

and defence services.
